RSV Immunisation

From the first week of September, the RSV immunisation programme will commence at the Coombe Hospital. All babies born from the 1st Sept 2024 to the 28th Feb 2025 will be offered the new RSV monoclonal antibody immunisation, called Nirsevimab.  RSV is a virus that causes respiratory (chest) infections in young babies and each winter one in two new born babies get RSV. Four out of a hundred new born babies are hospitalised, some needing to be admitted to intensive care units for specialist treatment.
