The Coombe Hospital, as one of the largest single-site maternity units in Ireland, has been providing comprehensive care to women and newborns since 1826. Our care extends to over 8000 pregnant women a year; with our neonatal unit seeing over 1000 newborns and the dedicated Women's Health Centre supporting over 7000 surgical procedures.
Our midwifery philosophy embraces birth as a profound experience, which carries significant meaning for the woman, her family, and the community. The Coombe Hospital, as one of the first maternity hospitals in Ireland to develop water immersion for labour and birth, is committed to innovation that supports women and families.

Our Practice Development Team strive to offer ongoing support to Midwives, Nurses and Midwifery and Nursing Students to become the best midwives and nurses they can be.
Midwives and Nurses from The Coombe Hospital have been supported with funding (partial and full) and study leave for further education. Our staff have studied at our affiliated university, Trinity College Dublin (TCD) and in other universities. (The School of Nursing & Midwifery, TCD, is ranked 1st in Ireland, 5th in Europe and 25th in the World, in the QS World University Subject Rankings 2018).

Our Midwives and Nurses are also supported to attend conferences, workshop and study days in our onsite Centre for Midwifery Education and national and international venues. We host an annual Essence of Midwifery Care Conference each May celebrating Midwifery care nationally and internationally.
