Your First Appointment
Once you have completed our maternity registration form a member of our team will contact you to arrange your booking visit. This is your first appointment at the hospital and generally takes place at approximately 12 - 14 weeks of your pregnancy.
During this visit, you will be seen by a midwife and a detailed history and assessment of your physical, mental and social wellbeing will be undertaken. Following a review of your history, options regarding care plans which are appropriate to your needs will be discussed and explored.
You may be seen by a member of the medical team if further consultation is needed, so as to ensure the most appropriate care pathway for your pregnancy and delivery. Routine bloods, urine sample and basic physical measurements e.g. BMI and blood pressure will be taken as part of this booking visit.
FAQs
-
When you arrive to The Coombe Hospital, please go to the Outpatient’s Department located on the ground floor, just off the Main Entrance of the Hospital. Please check in at the hatch. They will check your personal details and create your chart.
-
A dating scan will also be arranged for you, which may be provided on the same day or may be scheduled for a later date.
The scan will confirm your expected due date (EDD), the number of babies you are expecting, and monitor the heart beat.
Support partners are welcome to join you for this part of your booking visit. They are asked to wait outside until you are called for your scan.
Subsequent Appointments
You will need to attend the hospital for a number of appointments throughout your pregnancy depending on your health and level of care.
If you are under the Community Midwifery Service, you will attend your appointments at your community clinics.
You might also be required to attend one of our specialist clinics so you and your baby can receive specialist care.
Non Invasive Prenatal Testing
Prenatal testing is available during pregnancy to test for genetic conditions in your baby.
