What happens to me following the birth of my baby?
Following birth, mothers receiving public care recover on a public ward, unless they have to be accommodated elsewhere until a public bed becomes available. It is not possible for any mother booked as a public patient, and holding private health insurance, to use their insurance to ask for accommodation on a semi-private or private ward.
If you hold and wish to use private health insurance for accommodation, you must choose to be treated as a semi-private, or private patient at the time of booking.
