Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit
The Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU) is a specialised clinic dedicated to providing care to women in early pregnancy. Indications for referral to the EPAU include:
vaginal bleeding and/or pain
history of previous ectopic pregnancy and/or other risk factors for ectopic pregnancy
history of recurrent miscarriage (i.e history of 3 or more miscarriages)
early pregnancy with an intra-uterine device in-situ.
Women are seen in the EPAU by appointment only. There are two ways in which appointments can be made:
GPs may email a referral letter to the EPAU at epaudept@coombe.ie and the patient will then be contacted with an appointment time. Appointments will not be given unless a referral letter has been received.
Patients can also be referred through the Coombe Hospital Emergency Room. Patients attending the Emergency Room will have their appointments made by staff from the Emergency Room. The Emergency Room is open 24/7.
