DOMINO & early transfer home services

How do I avail of The Coombe DOMINO Service?

The Coombe DOMINO Service is available to healthy pregnant women who live in Dublin 8, 10, 12, 20, 22, 24, Lucan, Saggart, Rathcoole, Naas, Kill, Sallins, Johnstown and Newbridge areas.

We are a team of experienced midwives who will look after you from your initial booking visit, throughout your pregnancy, during your labour and for the first week after your baby is born.

Do I need to travel to The Coombe Hospital to avail of this service?

No, antenatal appointments take place in one of our community based clinics at Dublin 12, Dublin 22, Dublin 24 Lucan and Naas.

Antenatal care is shared with your GP at your chosen community setting. When in labour you will be cared for by one of the DOMINO midwives who is based in the hospital.

As a team, we strongly promote active birth. We encourage all women to use natural methods to help cope with labour e.g. movement, massage, use of Coombe birthing aids such as bean bags and birthing balls, water, and good mental attitude. This enables women to be actively involved in the birth of their baby. We as midwives have seen the benefits of this approach.

After birth you and your baby can go home the next day and we will continue to provide postnatal care in your home with daily visits from a community midwife up to and including your baby's new born screening test (better known as the heel prick test) on Day 5.

The Coombe DOMINO midwives are part of the wider hospital multidisciplinary team working to ensure all women have a safe and positive birth experience. If medically necessary, we can refer you to a consultant at any point of your pregnancy, labour or in the postnatal period.
